A Sh#thouse Idea.

I have a simple architectural solution to reduce bullying in schools.

There has been much said about the ‘safe schools’ program here in Australia.

In particular ‘gender based’ bullying.

I believe it can be reduced by having genderless cubicles in the hallways of schools.

Why do we not have a decision to make at home when we wish to do the most natural processes.

We don’t have to decide what gender we are to use the loo?

Yet when a five year old starts school there is a fundamental choice they are confronted with, often for the first time in their lives…alone.

What gender am I…I just wanna pee ! NOW!

We don’t have to choose on planes.

(even though it’s only women who change babies apparently)

Disabled rarely have to choose, they simply reinforce their disability (but that’s for another post)

So why is there such a binary choice at school, where we spend the vast majority of our ‘gender’ forming years?

And who the hell has one of these at home?

Scared the bejesus outta me when I spotted this in Kindergarden ! Am I the only bloke who refuses to use these?

Who designed these?

Maybe it was some silly Frenchman.

But I digress…

Just do away with ablutions blocks (maybe re-purpose them as science labs)

And create completely separate stand-alone cubicles. With their own wash basin.

Just like at home…or on board a plane.

A sh#thouse idea…?
